EVERYTHING ABOVE THE FOLD ON YOUR WEBSITE NEEDS TO SCREAM 'CALL ME NOW'

The top of your plumbing website gets 3 seconds to convince someone to call. Here's exactly what needs to be there and what needs to go.

"Above the fold."

That's the fancy web design term for everything a visitor sees on your website before they scroll down.

On a phone, that's roughly the top 600 pixels. On a computer, the top 800 or so.

This tiny sliver of screen is the most valuable real estate on your entire website. More important than your About page. More important than your services list. More important than anything else.

Because here's the cold truth...

Most People Never Scroll

Studies show that 57% of time spent on a web page happens above the fold. Google's own PageSpeed Insights tool measures how quickly your above-the-fold content loads. A huge chunk of visitors decide whether to stay or leave based on what they see in those first 3 seconds.

Three seconds.

That's less time than it takes to flush a toilet.

And yet I see plumber websites every day that waste this space with giant stock photos of wrenches, meaningless slogans like "Quality Service Since 1998," or (my personal favorite) a full-screen slideshow that takes 8 seconds to load.

Makes me wanna cry.

What Homeowners Actually Need to See

When someone lands on your plumbing website, they need to answer three questions instantly:

  1. What do you do? (You're a plumber)
  2. Where do you do it? (In their city)
  3. How do I contact you? (Phone number or button)

If they can't answer all three questions in 3 seconds, you've lost them. They're hitting the back button. They're calling someone else.

That's it. That's the whole game above the fold.

The Anatomy of a Perfect Plumbing Website Header

Here's what should be above the fold on every plumbing website. In order of importance.

### 1. Your Phone Number (Big. Bold. Clickable.)

This is number one for a reason. The whole point of your website is to get the phone to ring.

Your phone number should be visible at the top of every page. On mobile, it needs to be a tap-to-call button. No one is going to memorize your number and then switch apps to dial it.

Big. Bold. Clickable. Non-negotiable.

### 2. A Clear Headline

Not "Welcome to Our Website." Not "Your Trusted Partner in Plumbing Solutions."

Something like:

"Fast, Reliable Plumbing in [Your City]. Call Now for Same-Day Service."

That tells them everything they need to know in one sentence. What you do, where you do it, and why they should care (same-day service).

### 3. A Subheadline That Builds Trust

One line underneath your headline that adds credibility.

"Licensed & Insured. 500+ 5-Star Reviews. Available 24/7."

Or: "Family-Owned Since 2005. No Trip Fees. Free Estimates."

Pick your strongest proof points and put them right there.

### 4. A Call-to-Action Button

A big, impossible-to-miss button that says something like:

  1. "Call Now for a Free Estimate"
  2. "Schedule Service Today"
  3. "Get Help Now"

The button should be a contrasting color that jumps off the page. We cover color psychology for plumbing websites in another post. If your site is blue, make it orange. If your site is dark, make it bright green. You want it to be the first thing the eye is drawn to.

### 5. A Trust Bar

Right below your hero section, add a row of trust signals. Logos or badges for:

  1. Google rating (4.8 stars, 200+ reviews)
  2. BBB Accredited
  3. Licensed & Insured
  4. "Google Guaranteed" badge
  5. Years in business

This stuff matters more than you think. People are handing you the keys to their house. They need to know you're legit. We explain how trust signals work in a separate post.

What Needs to Go

Just as important as what to include is what to remove. Here's what I see on plumber websites that needs to die immediately.

Kill the slideshow. Those rotating banner images are slow, distracting, and nobody reads them. One strong image and headline beats a slideshow every time.

Kill the stock photos. That picture of a smiling model in a hard hat holding a wrench? Everyone knows that's not you. Use real photos of your team, your trucks, your actual work.

Kill the paragraphs. Above the fold is not the place for a three-paragraph essay about your company history. Save that for the About page.

Kill the mystery. If someone can't figure out what you do and how to call you in 3 seconds, you've failed. Don't make them hunt for it.

The Mobile Test

Here's what I want you to do right now. Pull out your phone. Go to your website.

Don't scroll. Just look at what you see.

Can you tell it's a plumbing company? Can you see the city you serve? Can you see a phone number or a "Call Now" button?

If the answer to any of those is no, you're losing customers every single day.

We did this test for a plumber in Atlanta. His above-the-fold content on mobile was entirely a stock photo with his logo over it. No phone number. No headline. No CTA.

We redesigned just the top section. Same website. Same everything else. Just fixed what was above the fold.

His call volume went up 35% in the first month. Just from that one change.

This Is the Easiest Win in Plumbing Marketing

You don't need to rebuild your entire website. You don't need to learn SEO. You don't need to start a blog or run ads.

Just fix what's at the top.

Make it clear. Make it fast. Make it obvious what to do next.

That's it.
