THE 12-MONTH WEBSITE GROWTH PLAN FOR PLUMBING BUSINESSES
A month-by-month blueprint to turn your plumbing website from a dead brochure into a lead-generating machine. Follow this plan and watch what happens.
Dear Plumber,
You didn't build your plumbing skills in a weekend.
It took years. Apprenticeship. Journeyman work. Crawling under houses. Fixing other people's screw-ups. Learning by doing.
Your website should work the same way. Not overnight. But methodically. Month by month. Brick by brick.
The problem? Most plumbers either do nothing (dead website collecting dust) or try to do everything at once (overwhelmed, burned out, quit after 2 weeks).
There's a better way.
Here's your 12-month growth plan. Follow it. Step by step. Don't skip ahead. Don't overthink it. Just execute.
By month 12, you won't recognize your business.
Month 1: Fix the Foundation
Nothing else matters until your website actually works. Not ads. Not SEO. Not social media. None of it.
This month's priorities:
- Get a real website (not Wix, not Squarespace, not your nephew's weekend project)
- Make sure it loads in under 3 seconds on mobile
- Put your phone number in the header of every page, clickable on mobile
- Add a simple contact form above the fold
- Include your service area clearly on the homepage
- Add at least 3-5 real photos of you, your team, and your work
That's it. Don't worry about being perfect. Worry about being functional.
A basic, fast, mobile-friendly website with a clear phone number converts better than a fancy, slow, confusing one every single time.
done beats perfect, always
Month 2: Build Your Service Pages
One page that lists all your services? That's not gonna cut it.
This month's priorities:
Create individual pages for each major service you offer: - Drain cleaning - Water heater installation/repair - Leak detection and repair - Sewer line repair/replacement - Toilet repair and installation - Faucet repair and installation - Garbage disposal repair - Gas line services - Repiping - Emergency plumbing
Each page should have: - A headline targeting "[service] in [your city]" - 300-500 words explaining what you do and why you're the right choice - Your phone number and contact form - At least one customer review related to that service
Why this matters: Google can't rank one page for 15 different services. But it CAN rank 15 separate pages for 15 different searches. Here's our full guide on service pages.
Month 3: Claim and Optimize Your Google Business Profile
If you haven't done this yet, you're leaving free leads on the table.
This month's priorities:
- Claim your Google Business Profile (if you haven't)
- Fill out EVERY field (business name, address, phone, hours, services, description)
- Add 20+ real photos (truck, team, completed jobs, storefront/office)
- Write a keyword-rich business description
- Add all your services individually
- Set up Google Posts (aim for 1 per week going forward)
- Ask 5-10 past customers for Google reviews
Your GBP shows up in the local "map pack" at the top of search results. It's free real estate. And it's often the FIRST thing a homeowner sees when they search for a plumber.
Month 4: Launch Your Review Collection System
Reviews are the single most important trust signal for plumbing businesses online. Period.
This month's priorities:
- Create a direct link to your Google review page
- Set up a post-job text message system (manual or automated)
- Text every customer within 2 hours of completing a job
- Respond to every review that comes in (good and bad)
- Set a goal: 10+ new reviews this month
The text template: "Hey [Name], thanks for choosing us today! If you've got 60 seconds, we'd really appreciate a quick Google review. Here's the link: [link]. Thanks! - [Your Name]"
If you do 4 jobs a day and 30% of people leave a review, that's 25+ new reviews per month. In 6 months, you'll have 150+ reviews. That changes everything.
Month 5: Create Location Pages
If you serve multiple cities or neighborhoods, each one deserves its own page.
This month's priorities:
Create a page for every city/area you serve. Title format: "Plumber in [City Name] - [Your Business Name]"
Each page should include: - The city name in the headline and throughout the content - Specific mentions of neighborhoods, landmarks, or zip codes - Your services available in that area - A map showing you service that location - Reviews from customers in that area (if you have them)
Pro tip: If you serve 8 cities, that's 8 new pages that can rank independently. One of our clients added 6 location pages and saw organic traffic increase by 180% in 60 days.
Month 6: Start Blogging (Yes, Really)
I know. You're a plumber, not a writer. But hear me out.
This month's priorities:
Publish 2-4 blog posts this month. Topics should be questions homeowners actually ask:
- "How much does it cost to replace a water heater in [your city]?"
- "Signs you need a sewer line repair"
- "How to prevent frozen pipes this winter"
- "Tankless vs. tank water heater: which is right for you?"
Each post should be 500-800 words, written in plain English, and include a call to action at the bottom.
Why this works: Blog posts target "informational" searches. People aren't ready to hire yet. But when they read your helpful article and eventually need a plumber... you're the one they remember.
Keep publishing 2-4 posts per month going forward. It compounds.
Month 7: Add Trust Signals Everywhere
By now you've got traffic coming in. Time to make sure those visitors convert.
This month's priorities:
- Add your license number and insurance details to every page (key trust signals)
- Display manufacturer certifications (Rheem, Rinnai, Bradford White, etc.)
- Add a satisfaction guarantee prominently on the homepage
- Create a trust bar with icons (Licensed, Insured, Background Checked, etc.)
- Embed your best Google reviews on the homepage
- Add before/after photos of your work
Every single one of these reduces friction and increases trust. More trust = more calls.
Month 8: Optimize for Conversions
Your website is getting traffic. Now let's make sure that traffic converts into calls.
This month's priorities:
- Add click-to-call buttons on every page (especially mobile)
- Put a contact form in the sidebar or mid-page, not just at the bottom
- Add urgency elements ("Same-day service available" or "Call before 2pm for same-day appointments")
- Create a sticky header with your phone number that follows users as they scroll
- Test different headlines on your homepage to see what converts best
Small changes here can mean 20-50% more calls from the same traffic. That's huge.
Month 9: Build Local Citations and Backlinks
Citations are mentions of your business name, address, and phone number on other websites. They help Google trust that your business is real and relevant.
This month's priorities:
Get listed on: - Yelp (claim, don't pay for ads) - BBB - Angi (claim your profile) - HomeAdvisor (claim only) - Local chamber of commerce - City business directories - Industry directories (plumbing-specific) - Nextdoor (claim your business)
Aim for 30-50 consistent citations. Make sure your name, address, and phone number are EXACTLY the same on every listing.
Month 10: Launch Email Marketing
You've been collecting customer info for 9 months. Time to use it.
This month's priorities:
- Set up a simple email tool (Mailchimp, etc.)
- Import your customer list
- Send a monthly email with:
- - A seasonal plumbing tip
- - A special offer or reminder
- - A link to your latest blog post
- - Your phone number and a CTA to book
Example seasonal emails: - October: "5 things to do before winter to protect your pipes" - January: "Frozen pipe emergency? Here's what to do (and our number)" - March: "Spring plumbing checklist for homeowners"
Simple. Consistent. Keeps you top of mind.
Month 11: Analyze and Double Down
By now you've got 10 months of data. Time to look at what's working.
This month's priorities:
- Check Google Analytics: Which pages get the most traffic?
- Check your call tracking: Which pages generate the most calls?
- Look at your review trend: Are reviews still coming in consistently?
- Check your keyword rankings: Where are you on page 1? Where are you close?
Double down on what works. If your "water heater installation" page is your top performer, create related content. If a specific location page is crushing it, add more content about that area.
Cut what doesn't work. Stop wasting energy on things that aren't moving the needle.
Month 12: Scale and Systematize
You made it. 12 months of consistent effort. Your website should now be a lead-generating machine.
This month's priorities:
- Document your review collection process (so any employee can do it)
- Set up a content calendar for the next 12 months
- Consider adding Google Ads for high-value emergency keywords (now that your website converts, ads will actually work)
- Evaluate hiring a part-time marketing assistant or VA to handle posts, emails, and review responses
- Set revenue goals for the next year based on your current lead flow
The Compound Effect
Here's what this plan looks like in numbers:
| Month | Est. Monthly Organic Leads | |-------|---------------------------| | 1-2 | 2-5 | | 3-4 | 5-15 | | 5-6 | 15-30 | | 7-8 | 25-45 | | 9-10 | 35-60 | | 11-12 | 50-80+ |
By month 12, you could be getting 50-80+ organic leads per month. Leads you don't pay per click for. Leads that come in 24/7.
That's a pipeline worth $100,000-$500,000+ in annual revenue. From a website.
